Laboratory of Computational Mechanics - LAMC

Supports research and education in the area of Computational Mechanics and fosters advances in the development and application of numerical methods and computational techniques for the solution of engineering problems.

The premises of the lab-to-be can be traced back to the activity promoted by the research group of "Scienza delle Costruzioni", beginning from the early 1980s. The Lab was definitely established in the first 1990s, thanks, mainly, to the efforts of Prof. A.A. Cannarozzi to whom the Lab was entitled in 2002. Since its foundation, LAMC participates actively in research programs with external partners, organizes periodically courses and seminars, fosters collaboration with industry and offers its expertise to private and public organizations.

Research

LAMC hosts basic and applied research activities in the area of computational mechanics. The activity encompasses the development and application of theoretical models, numerical methods and computational techniques for the solution of engineering problems. The current research lines address a wide range of engineering issues, including solid and structural mechanics, heat and mass transfer, smart and innovative materials, damage and fracture, historical monumental heritage. LAMC participates actively in research projects and contracts, in collaboration with other research groups, public institutions and partners from industry.

Projects & Contracts

The Lab participates actively in research projects in collaboration with other research groups and partners from industry, hosts and organizes periodically courses and seminars addressed to advanced students and professionals and invites applications to develop basic and applied research. In addition, the Lab offers its expertise to companies in the development and application of numerical methods and computational techniques for the solution of engineering problems. Companies can participate in the activities of the Lab either by becoming an affiliate of one or more of the research programs, or by sponsoring specific research projects of particular interest to them.

Teaching and training
The facilities of the LAMC are available to students in order to support advanced courses related to the area of Computational Mechanics and to assist undergraduate students in lab works and exercises. Students have fully independent access to the classroom and, under the supervision of the tech support specialist, to the central lab area.
